to the tune of no one
you can’t smile
when you know it’s me
letters and late presence
punishment or penance
sleepless dreams in wake
for heaven or goodness sake
done living a lie
when you know you think it’s me
in a lot full of tenants
less in common than we sense
in a county measured in miles
one of us knows when you can’t smile
you won’t smile
when you know it’s mine
the eyes of love won’t wait
seeing the eyes that you bait
more priority than truth
to a life easily ignored
easy to ignore
easier ignored
no longer ignored
no forward
so easy to describe afraid
nothing wrong with getting laid
welcoming tomorrow today
a tribute to life in decay
borrowed blue new divine
for nothing old that will shine
for when it comes to mind
almost forgot why you won’t smile
how many days will end
when you see me do you pretend
your tomorrow never mine
what you rent you won’t rewind
so many more important things
so many unused diamond rings
from the important and by the sure
you won’t let me go away
you don’t want me to stay
you won’t hear me say you
won’t tell me to go away
silence is not enough
i’m no diamond nor rough
if all i get for poems is silence
then you don’t need my style
for they’ll never make you smile
again
.
everyone knows more than me
how blind my faith refuses to see
what takes up your space must i now file
never allowed to see you smile
if I ever see you again
will I be expected to pretend
will I be as ignored
will it depend on if you’re on board
all messages left in a pile
that will never help anyone smile
now that you’ve seen my soul apart
you still clutch and brake my heart
let it go
let it know
why it no longer helps you smile
.
