she knew how to laugh
without apology
she could tell when I was blind
and she knew when I could see
she always let me in and
asked me how my cousins were
she remembered everyone
with kindred intent pure
she did more with much less
proud of her nephews and nieces
she wouldn’t take me with her
no time to pick up my pieces
to her own she passed down
the will and strength to be
no one knew her longer
many knew her more than me
she laughed as loud as I
but from hers she gave us joy
my sister always welcomed me
like she did when I was a boy
