Any Volunteers?

 there’s no work but

there are volunteers

giving up cars … warriors treated as peers … helping those trapped indoors … licking wounds bandaged from fighting wars

dragons setting artillery fires … care not working for general liars … for their boss lost his shirt … with no conscience … there’s none to get hurt

no deep pockets to pick … on his cactus he’s his own only best prick … can’t get back what’s been scared away … when love leaves is gone forever to stay

there’s no life but

that of volunteers

to ticker tape there’s the hush of absent cheers … there’s none coming from the west … too used to telling each other we’re the very best

the most dangerous dragons are those who are bored … their bosses fear they’ve lost the attention of being adored … telling their shirtless boss they’ve got all control … peasants fight with rocks against tanks on a roll

an eastern european

army of volunteers

forgetting their former life of kremlinisque fears … no alcohol ban would let invasion win … a disciplined patriotic movement would begin

dragons sharing air strikes with the sunflowers beneath … showing their field marshall bosses the fresh blood on their teeth … the anthem of their country always fresh in their minds … the west still deciding on how far we’ll be behind

there’s no space or room

for anyone but volunteers

lending a nation at war a hand won’t help them fight back tears … a quarter of the populous refuse to yield or budge … from the comfort of an ocean who are we to sit and judge

with no running water for a hundred with just one toilet … all of them keeping their anne frank from getting out to spoil it … solar powered chargers to keep their phones alive … the west is in reverse  to stay in neutral with no drive

the few and the proud are

in truth volunteers

all those left behind cooking over open fires … what once were given rights now objects of desire … to seek peace in a body bag won’t ever be enough … waging peace isn’t easy when you need to be looking tough

will it be enough to just hold hands anymore … will the volunteers ever see the day they run out of survival chores
